Pencil on Paper

Pencil on Paper

There are drawings scattered around our house these days.

A pinecone and an evergreen sprig. A milkweed pod. Two little mugs. Grasses growing beside an old fence post.

My son has been making them for Poems for Childhood, our collection of poems about the small adventures and wonders found throughout the turning year.

There is something especially dear to me about watching Ryder create them. Soon these little sketches will find their way into finished books. But I think I will always remember them like this too. Pencil on paper, from the heart and hands of one I love.
